The general public prefer "weekly one-off" shows since that means they
can miss episodes without losing track of what's happening. Fans thend
to prefer "continuity episodes" (aka story arcs) sicne they do watch
EVERY episode. Many shows try to combine the two to satisfy both
audiences by having a weekly story and a background on-going /
   multi-episode story.

Personally I tend not to like "story arc" shows. I think X Files lost
the plot (and jumped the shark) when it switched from "monster of the
week" to the never-ending "Mulder & Scully love story / Mulder's alien
hunt". The name of the show is X-FILES, so even on the most basic level
it made sense to investigate a differetn file each week.

George Lucas has said it will be about a minor movie character, so we
will possibly be finding more out about someone like Aurra Sing or Boba
Fett rather than Luke and Anakin.
