   The Jedi were suspicious that Palpatine was somehow involved with the   
   Separatists, but they did not even guess that he was a Sith Lord until

   If the Council had realised that Palpatine was a Sith Lord then they   
   wouldn't have let Anakin anywhere near him, let alone act as a spy.
