   Nope, you're missing the point. Palpatine was simply playing with Mace   
   Windu. He was PRETENDING to be weak and defeated because he sensed   
   Anakin was coming.   
      
   Plapatine is winning and confident, suddenly he's "losing" and "weak",   
   Anakin arrives, suddenly he's again strong and wins.   
      
   Even my uncle Jack can see what's going on, and he's blind.  ;-)   
      
   If Anakin had not gone to Palpatine's office, then Plapatine wouldn't   
   have bothered pretending and would have simply wiped the floor with   
   Mace Windu as he did with the other three Jedi and almost did with Yoda   
   as well.   
      
   The entire scene was Palpatine purposely playing to Anakin to   
   manipulate him further over to the Dark Side. As a secondary result he   
   also had a witness to the "bad Jedi" who was about to kill him (as well   
   as good footage for the edited security video as described in the   
   novelisation), which he used as the excuse at the later Senate meeting   
   to basically declare the Jedi outlaws.   
      
   The one and only time Palpatine has been losing and things not gone as   
   he planned was on the second Death Star when Luke refused to join him   
   and Vader returned from the Dark Side.
