   The Ion cannon damages the electrical systems of conventional ships.   
   Since Vong utilize living creatures for virtually everything, it would   
   be reasonable to assume that Ion cannons can aslo scramble the nervous   
   systems of these creatures. Nervous systems are, after all, made up of   
   a complex system of electric power lines...
