Stargate SG-1 suffered from the same problem as many long-running
on-going shows ... they ran out of ideas and the "bad guys" became mere
nuisances, so they had to invent new "bad guys". They ended up with
three sets of "bad guys", and then added another two for Star gate
   Atlantis.

Stargate SG-1 also suffered badly when main cast members wanted out ...
although Daniel Jackson kept coming back again. Ben Browder is not as
   good as MacGyver. :-)
