   The battledroids have always had cheesy comments (and largely   
   irrelevant since they are controlled form the same computer!), but the   
   battledroids have been given more individualised characters in the   
   animated show.   
      
   It's part of the comedy / fun side of Star Wars that has been there all   
   along, mainly with C-3PO and R2-D2.   
      
   In the movie, one of them is knocked off a cliff and his commanding   
   officer shouts at him to "come back here". They also talk to the spider   
   droids like pet dogs.  :-)
