   Well, think about it, really!   
      
   Obi Wan says that Anakin Skywalker was Luke's father and a good friend   
   and the best pilot in the galaxy.   
      
   Obi Wan also says that Anakin was killed by Vader.   
      
   Obi Wan say vader was seduced by the dark side of the force.   
      
      
   So, in the prequels, Anakin and Vader are two different persons.   
   Everything plays out exactly like Obi Wan says - only, it wasn't   
   Anakin that was Lukes father, it was Vader.   
      
   So, Anakin and Vader, which may or may not go by different names   
   throughout the movies, are rivals in the Jedi order, a lot of tension,   
   and the dark side of Vader is an underlying tone throughout the   
   trilogy until he finally succumbs to it.   
      
   Both have the same love interest, which could be this Amidala chick,   
   who is pregnant by the last film, but it is never shown just who got   
   her pregnant. The way it plays out, Anakin may be uncertain about him   
   being the father, or certain that he would take care of the children   
   regardless.   
      
   The rivalry between Anakin and Vader culminates with his realization   
   that he could be the father of children that Anakin will bring up and   
   Anakin is killed in the process.   
      
   Obi Wan, the mentor of both, have tried to deal with their feelings   
   and when Vader has crossed the lines, hunts him down and kills him, or   
   so he thinks.   
      
   So the Star Wars saga isn't about the rise and fall of Anakin, it's   
   about the dark side finally overtaking the Jedi temple resulting in   
   the Jedi purge.   
      
   Heck - Obi Wan might not even KNOW that Vader is Lukes and Leias   
   father. He may assume that Anakin is since he is the one that takes   
   care of them. And Anakin won't say anything about his doubts.   
      
   This way, the entire hidden relationshop between Palpatine and Vader   
   can be in full force from the first movie. The Jedi council can   
   express their doubts about Vader from the start - just like they do   
   Anakin, but this time around, the doubts aren't supposed to be mixed   
   with the idea that Anakin was a good Jedi and a good friend of Obi Wan.   
      
   Damn, it could have worked.
