But desiring a bit of entertainment on the weekend doesn't make
the Public dumbasses, nor is the Public responsible for the shitty
quality of entertainment coming out of Hollywood.

The movie studios and tv networks have all become just divisions
of one or another metanational corporation and this has resulted
in them being subjected to the same industrial efficiency processes
that, for example, a tennis shoe factory would be put under; produce
a product that appeals to the widest range of consumers at the
lowest cost possible, to generate maximum profits.

That Star Trek flick has to appeal not only to fans in Peoria but
also to movie goers in Peshawar, Petropavlovsk, Pago Pago, etc.
and that means everything must be is dumbed down to a global
   standard.

Movies have become consumer products no different then Big Macs,
whatever elements of art that are retained is happenstance.
