your basic I am going oversea and would I be back setup.

I stop reading Ichgio 100% about 2 books into the series, and what I
read from the reactions of tw.bbs.rec.comic is the ending is RUSHED and
FORCED, hidding the choice all the way until the last 2 or 3 pages,
kind of like the author try her hardest to spring the semi-surprise on
the readers, I always thought this is a series that benefits greatly
from being on SJ, the most popular manga magazine without any emphasize
on harem at all, and at the same time with Shueisha's #1 harem mangaka
Katsura Masakuzu "graduated" and moved on to Ultra Jump, the timing
couldn't be better, this title would never get this kind of hype if it
was on Kodansha, where I can name 5 or 6 harem titles that are better.

I don't think you need to worry about the rest of the girls, the final
chapter (167) supposely took care all of them, and there will be bonus
   chapters later on this fall.

   > >That's unhelpful. I'm assuming you mean I should translate that

I purposely not rot-13 the actual name, because I don't want people to
guess the ending from counting how many letters are in the word.

   > While it's not so blatantly obvious in the TV series,

it is quite obvious to someone who knows, it is essentially like calling
Mr. "Black" and Mr. "White", etc.

   > >The anime makes it look like he was going "east".

because Toujou is the destiny girl from the initial setup, and the
anime, w/o the benefit of a finished manga story, just go ahead and
guess, it's a case of the mangaka pull a fast one, (and in many cases,
purposely because they don't want the manga finish too similiar to the
already done anime. just like anime would want to do variations to
differenate from the manga, etc.) for another example, check out the
latest Fruits Basket manga storyline compare to anime.

   > The manga starts off pretty even between "east" and "west",

   > chance, and that Nishino would at least have been left
   > with good memories. But I guess it didn't turn out that way.

btw, for a much better way of putting some surprises in a non-surprising
ending, check out the last chapter of Kare Kano. let's see if Ai Yori
Aoshi's forth coming ending can do better.
