Chobits was one of the       first anime series I saw and while I was quite undecided about what I       really thought about it, it did grow on me though I didn't really care       much about the ending. I'm still not sure why I liked it, probably just       because it's cute and fairly amusing. I'm sure there are good arguments       about the whole (sex) robot vibe though. Still, I like stories that bring       up questions about what makes us human (I like Bladerunner). I'm rambling,       sorry...                     >> So, is there anything for a straight middle-aged white male out there       >> (I mean, this group can't be in a minority here - that'd be a first!)       >       > that might be a distinct possibility.              Interesting experience. :-)              > but if you are only going to try one title out of this post, Monster, by              Several people mention this one, so it'll definitely go on my list.              > my rule of thumb for following manga, try and find out as many different       > author's works as possible, be it from post like this on the net,              Of course, this goes for pretty much anyting, from books to music.              > my initial impression of your post is you order a lot of books to try       > out, w/o knowing if you like it or not, or if you will finish complete       > the collection, the "try-out" phrase should not involved so many       > purchases, there must be a Swiss equivalent of Barns and Noble bookstore       > where you can just go in there and at least browse them to see if you       > like them or not before buying them.              Sweden, not Swizerland. Book stores carry a lot of titles in       English, but they have to fight Swedish books for space so you can't       find everything. There is less manga in Swedish than English and most of       what there is, is primarily for teens. And where I live, book stores       aren't that large - definitely not Barnes and Noble sized (I assume, never       having been to one). So, physical browsing opportunities are somewhat       limited which means the internet is my primary source for info.              > readers. while Japan publisher established the targeted readers by       > magazines, there is of course no restriction on what you can read, as       > long as it suits you, etc.              Absolutely, I just wanted tips on titles that are harder for me to find       out about on my own and was curious about stuff for more mature readers.              Thanks for the long and detailed reply, it was very helpful.              Bo              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
