   I don't read superhero comics either, so I wasn't aware of his work in the   
   field.  But you'd think that somebody at the top would do a bit of   
   research on what fans think of a translator/adaptor's previous work before   
   putting them on the payroll.

   I don't know if she's lived all her life in California, but I suspect that   
   may have something to do with it, given how much slang from the region   
   that she (ab)uses in her work.  However, when you stop to think about it,   
   "sacred jewel" doesn't roll off the tongue quite as easy as "Shikon," does   
   it?

   It's drowning in overAmericanization, and not even very good types, like   
   references to the 70's band Bread (who the hell are they?  Exactly.).  It   
   just doesn't read to me at all like how any of the people I've encountered   
   in my life really talk.  I have to admit that the versions of the anime   
   I've seen have been digitized versions shown at a club, complete with   
   English credits.  I don't know if those were the real Tokyopop subs or   
   not, but if they were, they were a lot less overstylized than the manga   
   was, and I enjoyed it much more as a result.
