   My own view is a simple one: the location identity of the story shouldn't be   
   changed.   
      
   If the story is set in Tokyo, Japan, then they should not be talking in   
   distinct American slang and even sillier things like using dollars as money.   
   What is next? Changing place names to help localisation? How about replacing   
   "dream girlfriend" issues with school shootings and living in trailer parks   
   as the central theme, seeing as Americans could more closely relate with   
   this?   
      
   I read Manga because it IS Japanese. Just as I watch Asian cinema instead of   
   Hollywood fare because it IS Asian. The more they localise the product, the   
   less exotic it is.  Problem is it is expressly this foreign exoticness that   
   keeps me reading/watching.
