   My co-worker (in a Tokyo company) was from Osaka and he was forever   
   apologizing for his accent; he seemed to think people couldn't   
   understand him (not that I could hear much difference!).   
      
   Man he was a great guy though... your comparison with Texas seems   
   apropos actually; people I've know from Osaka and from Texas both seemed   
   to have a similar sort of "cheerful robustness" to their manner.  I   
   dunno maybe they'd hate being lumped in with a stereotype like that, but   
   I swear, it's true!!
