I like them, it's a nice story about       growing up and fulfilling one's dream. I like the distinct artwork too.       I just never considered some comparison between this title and YKK. It's       not in the same league, it doesn't aim the same, I think.              > I haven't get a chance to read Kamichu, but I heard it is pretty good       > and like Yotsubato. and Yotsubato is probably the closest thing to YKK       > right now.              Yotsubato? .... (which is better on that aspect than       > Gunnm and Tenjo Tenge.)              I haven't read these. Somehow I try to avoid Katsura for some years now,       lost interest in his work after I''s.              If we're talking now about "great atmosphere" in a broad sense, then       there's Berserk. Really dark, really bloody and - in my opinion - damn       good, especially the middle volumes.              > it is easy to create atmosphere, it is just not easy to create "relax"       > atmosphere in a continuation of 140 chapters, all manga can do       > atmosphere in some intervals, then they have to tell a story after       > enough "mood" had been built.       >       > it could be "too much of a good thing". in fact, I sometime wonder if       > those 140 chapters would not work out just as well as 140 painting of       > Alpha,              I don't think so because 140 paintings of a character would tell a story       you create mostly yourself in your own head whereas YKK proposes some       plotlines, even if they're more or less negligeable.              > or it is just the same when you watch a movie they don't play       > the mood building music all the way through a 2 hr movie, sooner or       > later, you have to deliever the goods.              Have you ever seen "Kooyanisqatsi"? It works without a plot ;)                     --       Yaniv Tempelman              Manga Takarajima http://www.manga-takarajima.mangafan.net/ (german)              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
