XPost: rec.arts.anime.misc       From: miles@gnu.org              I remember (I read it a _long_ time ago) the manga as occasionally       dragging a bit with all the rather confusing political intrigue, and the       movie was certainly tighter and more to the point... but I also remember       being rather disappointed in the movie. Miyazaki created such a       beautiful and interesting world, and the movie seemed to just gloss over       most of it to keep the plot moving along.              The manga allowed a much more leisurely and thorough treatment, and as a       result I found it far more satisfying. I also think Miyazaki's art is       much better in the manga (he's a great artist, and despite his career       making anime, they never really do justice to his art -- if you look at       his quick concept sketches, they're often much more interesting than the       final product!).              Granted, those are more or less properties of manga vs. anime in general       too, but although I like Miyazaki's anime a lot, they never quite seem       to justice to the wealth of ideas he has.              -Miles       --       自らを空にして、心を開く時、道は開かれる              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
