To be honest, I've yet to see a complete version of the anime (I've seen
the US dub "Warriors of the Wind" but I fully accept that, while this does
show Miyazaki's visuals, it is an edit and a very dubious dub).

However, just as with many stories of this kind, I can also accept that,
if you were to try to get the whole story into a movie, the length would
be excessive and the cost far too prohibitive. So I can accept that the
movie, in its original form, is likely to only cover a section of the
overall story as it was in the manga. I can also accept that this can,
sometimes, lead to a dissatisfying experience for those that have read the
manga. I well remember the wealth of gripes about Akira, for example.

It has been a long time since I last read through Nausicaa. Probably about
five years or so ago, in fact. I remember, though, that I got a lot of
pleasure out of the reading. I was a little disappointed in the ending,
but I can accept that the story would have deteriorated had it attempted
to go further. I've seen more than one story that could be improved by a
heavy trimming of dead weight storylines.
