Just to toss in my 2 cents here on Kaori Yuki....

I've read the first couple volumes of Angel Sanctuary and Godchild, and
between the two decided that Kaori Yuki works are just too "talky" for
me. Anything that has that much text on the pages, I feel, did something
wrong in the visual story department. I have always felt that the visual
story-telling is supposed to be one of comic's/manga's strong points,
where you can interpret the images to understand what is happening
instead of having to have it explained in text to you.

Also at times the detail of the art is just too heavy for me. Especially
the big frilly dresses in Godchild (the characters are fine, but the
details are just too much, too much). Maybe I'm just a minimalist with
respect to art (art can be good without being over the top, and I guess
I prefer it that way). Vampire Knight is almost, but not quite, too
detailed for my preference. Sugar Sugar Rune is a very minimalist art
style and I like it a lot. Same for Kimi wa Pet/Tramps Like Us.

Then again... maybe I just don't like shoujo horror, despite liking/
prefering every other type of shoujo over just about anything else. It's
hard to say. Godchild was my least favorite manga running in Shoujo
   Beat.
