Interesting. I wonder why I enjoyed the first 2/3? The story of the
son following in the footsteps of his father's work was compelling to
me. The mystery of what happened to him, and knowing this had something
to do with the Ring created enough suspense for me to enjoy it. I also
enjoyed the descriptions of the locales and his actions that I got into
   the story.

But yes, the outcome is pretty obvious which is why I said I can't
decide if it was just really cheesy or brilliant.

How? I'm hard pressed to think why...

   D'oh! I haven't even finished watching season 1. :-)

Usually one can get exemptions for personal vehicles (e.g., some people
bring their English cars over to North America). But he didn't have a
driver's license? I completely missed that fact. :-)

Heh. See far below the spoiler space for my interpretation.

I figured it was fictional. :-)

True. And that's the thing... he's reaching and if you believe the
house of cards hold, it's brilliant, but yet the hard SF fan in me keeps
wanting to knock out cards and the whole premise seems cheesy in a...

Kind of way. BTW, IMHO, the Da Vinci Code is a fun read, but the cards
in that house of cards starts falling out immediately and collapsed in
   my eyes almost immediately. :-)

   RE: The ring tape

In the computer simulated world that generated the ring tape, I was
under the impression the creators noticed this anomaly in the system and
then made a copy of the tape from their system which is how it escaped
   into the "real" world.
