This is one of the things that bugs me about manga in the shops, the price
per volume is typically twice what I'd pay for a normal book of that size,
but the paper is unpleasantly rough to touch as you turn the pages. ADV
seems to be worst, Tokyopop is not much better. The only manga I have that
was printed on paper with a nice feel to it is the old Darkhorse 3x3 Eyes
volumes. When I'm paying a premium price for a book I think I'm entitled to
expect that they would at least use decent paper.

Another thing I've seen is occasional colour splash pages printed in black
and white, with all four colour inks replaced by black, giving a dark murky
result. (ADV's To Heart being an example of this) Would it really cost too
much to include four or five colour pages in a volume? (They might at least
have done a proper conversion to greyscale!) This kind of thing puts me off
buying manga because it feels such a rip off to pay high prices for a
poorly made product. I realise the prices are probably largely to do with
relatively low volume sales compared to regular books but such a cheap
approach will hardly help sales levels unless accompanied by a bargain
   basement price.
