Comparing manga sales to graphic novel sales isn't entirely fair, given that
most domestic GNs are reprints of recent issues, while the manga are first
release (in the US). And while pamphlet sales are way down, the industry
still 200 or 300 million dollars off them in a given year, which is hard to
ignore. That's going to take a bite out of GN demand.

Manga is still somewhat niche in terms of general public
exposure/consciousness as compared to sales. I mean, Marvel Editor in Chief
Joe Quesada showed up on The Daily Show to discuss the events of Civil War!
Manga ia not likely to approach something like that any time soon.

US comics are less and less kid friendly by the day. The average age of a
comic book purchaser is over 20 years old.

Sorry if I seem a little defensive here, just that there seems to be a kind
of elitism by anime/manga fans when it comes to American comics.
