   Reby's right-hand man.  And I understand that later volumes will deal   
   at length with Birdy's past (and no doubt also the inner politics of   
   the Federation), about which little hints have been dropped here and   
   there ever since volume 1.   
      
   Overall, a very good SF action/adventure, with likable characters,   
   good artwork, and enough mysteries to keep you guessing for a while.
