I've seen shrink-wrap complete runs of Yawara manga in more than one
Book-Off store in Japan. From memory it costs about 2500-3000 yen
over-the-counter or about 30 bucks US. Individual volumes sell for the
Book-Off 105 yen base price -- it's not regarded as a premium title. The
problem for most manga fans in the west who might buy it is that it's
all in Japanese which makes it hard to read, and shipping costs would
   treble that price.

Scanlators might move down to supplying translation scripts for mangas
rather than doing the scan/edit/release process they do now but it would
be predicated on there being raws released on the Internet somewhere or
a mechanism for fans to buy mangas from Japanese sources at reasonable
   prices.

(I've done a bit of scanlation myself, mostly slipstream stuff plus a
couple of chapters of obscure mangas that never seem to get an
   English-language release).
