|    The Flower of Life manga    |

From: bliss@sfo.com               Att the SFPL library yesterday I found on        on the third floor in the teen section a new to me       manga "Flower of Youth". I read the first volume       and then later in the day went back and got the       other two volumes and have finished it.        This is nominated for some awards I believe       the author already won at least one with       The Moon and Sandals. Created by Fumi Yoshinaga       and published by Digital Manga Publishing. The       characters look like boys love or yaoi but        heterosexuality is the big item second to       Friendship.               Where as in Genshiken we had a university manga       club here we have a High School manga club in a       high school with uniforms and an accrual of talent to       the manga club with the arrival of hero after missing       a year and a month to an illness. He makes friends       and experiences the pangs and pain of adolescent life.        Fights with his new best friend and makes up. He       also mourns the passing of a hospital friend. But we       have teachers too adulterous and student loving.       Culture fests and parties, studying together and       in the case of the most otaku like of the characters       pursuing anime and manga with inhuman passion.       Oh yes and parents absent but not families for the       sympathetic characters.        Slice of life idealised of course but in the gentlest       way. Each volume at $12.95               I will read these one more time before I decide       to pursue their acquisition. May have to get the       Moon and Sandals if the Library doesn't have them.               Read on!        bliss              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
