   Otomo (actually Oh-Tomo) is very famous for his epic AKIRA, which I am
   currently reading and am on Volume 5.

   Ironically, I recently read his "Highway Star" and "Short Piece." Both are
   collection of short stories of varied genres that were published a little
   before Sayonara.

   He migrated to animation so he hardly ever draw manga these days.

   SAYONARA NIPPON Manga
   さよならにっぽん; Farewell Japan; Sayonara Japan
   Released: Author(s): Artist(s): Genre(s):
   1981 Otomo Katsuhiro Otomo Katsuhiro Comedy, Seinen, Slice Of Life

   The experiences of two Japanese people who move to the US; one a judo
   teacher, the other a guitarist.

   Well only 6 chapters up so far. The guitarist is struggling in Japan.
   So to the USA where he decides to return to Japan after not getting a
   job in his audition.

   The jodoka is struggling too to establish a jodo dojo in a bad
   neighborhood of NYC. Washing dishes to survive and only one student.

   Well it is early days in the story which is slow to develop but
   which seems to have lots of room for the characters to grow in.
