Aside from Genshiken which I reread and re-watch as often as I can find
the time, Kitoro, Showa History of Japan (4 volumes) and nearly
anything else by Shigero Mizuki, Whispered Words by Takashi Ikeda, Ooku
by Fumi Yoshinaga, Genkaku Picasso by Usamaru Furuya, Hyouge mono(Tea
for life, Tea for the Universe) by Yoshihiro Yamada, and if you want to
cruise thru the older posts on this list you will find a lot more.
Maison Ikkoku by Rumiko Takahashi, Kimagure Orange Road by Matasumoto
   Izumi.
Oguie Maniax, Astronerd-Boy, Heart of Furious Fancies blogs
for more about Japanese visual culture.
