XPost: rec.arts.anime.misc       From: bliss@mouse-potato.com              Hi readers and typers,                In this Corner of the World manga        Story and Art by Fumiyo Kouno published        in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment        US $27.99/Canada $32.99        Translation by Adrienne Beck        I was lucky enough to spot this the other day at the SFPL-Main        in the Graphic Novel section.        This story is about 1934-1946 and what happened in those        12 eventful years to a girl from a poor family of Seaweed gatherers        She is married by parents arrangement to a boy from Kuri and moves        their with an acerbic sister-in-law, a academic father, a few younger        relatives and some older ones who have gone to join the military.        The boy she marries had met her many years before and decided        that she was the one for him. She endures the war years and        strangely enough this girl who loves to draw loses her right hand.        She and her families lose a lot more of course including a younger        sister, brothers and parents. She is diligent about her duties        but due to war time privation does not conceive which troubles        her greatly.        Well this is not auto-biographical as is Gen of Hiroshima       but it is a highly effective story and has been turned into an       anime advertised in the back of the book. I would buy it in       an instant if i had the money at hand.               bliss                      --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
