[snip the description of a photon drive]

The problem with photon drive is that it has ludicrous power requirements.

It is listed on the Atomic Rockets website, on
   http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/enginelist.php
   under the entry "Photon"

"In other words, one lousy Newton of thrust takes three hundred freaking
   megawatts!!"

Keeping a photon drive from vaporizing itself is a significant problem.
