   The Belt will be in a similar situation. Yes, you will have regions of the   
   belt that are closer to Earth than the opposite side of the belt. But these   
   regions of the belt will be closer to adjacent regions of the belt, which will   
   be closer to other    
   regions of the belt. In the end, the belt will (eventually) be able to hold   
   its own because member regions have the resources to come to the aid of one   
   another.
