   When traveling at relativistic speeds, interstellar hydrogen becomes a   
   problem. It also becomes a significnat medium to go through. In fact, I was   
   thinking it would be an anology for air!   
      
   Interstellar hydrogen: air   
   Bussard ramscoops: Air intake   
   Insterstellar hydrogen exploding in your face when you travel at relativistic   
   speeds: heat from air compression   
      
   So, we could manipulate magnectic fields to create a "wing", allowing you to   
   change course mid-flight without spending a heck-ton of delta-v decelerating   
   and accelarating.   
      
   When you just want to stop, you could use magnetic fields to create a large   
   shield to create interstellar drag(a problem in Bussard Ramscoops) to slow   
   yourself down without spending delta-v.
