The steam will have to be vented... at an average rate of about 25g/s.       Since we are talking about velocities in the range of kms (as in the plural of       km)/s, this would mean gas densities on the order of 1g/40m^3 (or less). You       are not going to get a        lot of IR radiance at such a pathetic density.                     > > Not really. The 100w/person already factored in.                     > > Military budgets are not infinite. The military already makes tough       > > choices beteen the various systems they wish to deploy. WHAT was asked and answered?                     > "Was I to die this moment, ‘Want of Frigates’ would be found stamped on        > my heart." -- Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson       >        > The sensor platforms we are talking about are to interplantary war what        > frigates were to Napoleonic naval war. (or radar stations and satellites        > are to modern war).              You appear to have a misperception of what such platforms can actually do.        Even assuming detector sensitivites 1000x superior to current tech (which       actually probably won't be able to go beyond 25x improvement in performance       before running into the theoretical limits), you would be hard pressed to       detect an actual stealth        craft at ranges much over 10 000 000 km. Your famous solar polar platforms       would be lucky to be within a detectable range during even a fraction of a %       of their orbit.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
