   It really depends on the size of the black hole, because that determines the   
   gradient of the gravity.   
      
   If you have a black hole the gravity will be 4 times stronger at 1 meter   
   distance than it is at 2 meters. So if the hole pulls with 10000 N at 1   
   meters, it will only pull with 2500 at 2 meters. If the difference of 7500   
   (caused by the gradient) is    
   greater than the strength of the pole, the pole breaks.   
   (This is simplified, you must use integration math to do it right)   
      
   Very large black holes have a low gradient at the event horizon, and will let   
   you or a pole live for quite some time even if you fall in.   
      
   So I should think that if your spaceship is massive enough and has a correct   
   trajectory, you should be able to 'go fishing'; slingshot around a black hole   
   where you dip the pole under the event horizon, and pull it out again.
