From: adam.w.krajewski@gmail.com              Oh fuck, really? I just deleted such long post by accident...        Ehh, gonna make it shorter.       I never thought about lightsabers as plasma, but you make interesting point       here.        On MHD bullets, such gun still needs moving parts, bullet has to detonate in       chamber, to not damage other bullets.       Ok, so railguns don't throw gasses out of barrel, except for rail vapor, and       their bullets are accelerated with the same power through whole barrel, while       in normal guns you have gasses and acceleration gets smaller with pressure       going down. Would it        make a lot of diferrence?       On penetration, I completely forgot it's not only about speed and weight but       also about caliber and material. Depleted uranium in titanium would make a lot       of mess, probably making light armor vehicles obsolete. I think it's worth to       mention an        interesting system from pre WWII time, in my country (Poland) army designed       anti tank rifle that adressed a problem: when anti tank rifles penetrated       armor, they made a few schrapnels and you hoped for them to kill or injure the       crew, so it was hard to        destroy tank. So the engineers used works of one German scientist, and       designed a bullet, that was just a big chunk of lead. They made rifle that       shoot them with very high velocity, and it had an interesting effect on armor.       It squashed on steel plate        and made nice circular hole, giving so much energy to armor, that it melted,       and bullet with armor made a vapor inside the vehicle, that inflicted burns to       crew. What would you think about using it with this ChemRail thingy?        Okay, so tomorrow I will post something more about setting.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
