From: adam.w.krajewski@gmail.com              Okay, so this is answer to Mr Feergerson.       I really don't wanna use this type of backstory, I want to go with what I have       started, the connection to LOTR universe, which I will explain soon. And       important thing to note, I started designing this universe as a kid while       playing with Legos, and        after some time I started reading Atomic Rockets, and that strongly affected       realistic aspects of technology. Also, when I watched a movie, or was       interested in one area of science, I added new things to it.       Yes, they are kinda like Venus and Mars, the one closer to star I always       imagined as being something like lifeless Earth, just a bit hotter, with trees       and plants farmed on sandy plains, with trees protecting plants from wind,       rivers, and mountainous        areas where the mining facilities are located. The second one is colder,       although when I was thinking about it, firstly I imagined a multi layered       forest (influence of watching Avatar ;)), so maybe it's better to swap it with       this hotter planet.        Billions of years so that the life on Arda could exist and evolve and two       other planets didn't throw planetoids at each other. The only planet with       intelligent life is Arda, and humans are there naturally, with ecosystem same       as Earth. The sandy one        definitely needs creating the soil, while the forest covered, having its       animals, bacteria etc would be hard to colonize cause of completely diferrent       lifeforms. I am now thinking that making this planet was mistake and it may       be better to just scrap it        and change to next lifeless rock that needs to be terraformed.:v       Well, that's what I thought with these positions, seems that there needs to be       some *aliens/magic* intervention (remember the connection to LOTR :p). Oh, and       I didn't mention that Arda actually has a Moon of considerable size. And also,       I was thinking        about putting an asteroid belt around Arda, in my mind it was always on very       close orbit and was very dense, at least in some places, almost Star Warish       dense, but that's probably strongly unrealistic. But, it could be a temporary       cloud of rocks, made by        a small moon that got blown up and created a ring, what do you think? The sole       purpose of the belt in my plays was to give first space explorers materials       for setting bases and make some interesting space exploring, jumping from rock       to rock, drilling        into them and also give to the first space battles a feel of stealth.        Bigger star seems quite reasonable to me, I really like this idea.        I don't want these planets to orbit a gas giant, the travel time between them       is to be a few months if using a chemical rockets.        Firefly Verse was partly an inspiration for me, but I need to know if such       distances are possible without all stars being in dual systems or orbiting       central objects, but of course some of them may be like this. On the other       hand, it's prettt good idea,        and I think that finally I will include many star systems + lone stars +       binary stars in it.       The McGufinnite part seems well thought for me.       Antimatter factories were made first on Arda, they helped in exploring other       star systems, and were brought to these star systems to produce antimatter for       further exploration and easier refueling for transport ships.       The BH could be controlled by Arda I think, being used for some special       purposes, link transporting some big cargo like you said, or as capitol ships.        I need to think about these arms manufacturers, it's definitely idea worth       looking at.        I didn't know somebody already used "Arda" as name for science fictional       planet, but keep in my mind that my one is named like this because it actually       is rhe same Arda as it was in Tolkien's works. Here comes the time to explain       the connection of my        universe to LOTR: In Tolkien's books, almost all action takes place on west       part of a big continent. In Silmarrilion part of it gets flooded and stays the       Middle Earth with Hobbits, Mordor, Rings and stuff. The part that is on far       east is called Rhun,        but it is never stated what's behind it.        And here starts my story. On far east exists a civilization that is not       hampered in its technological advance as their Western friends. And Middle       Earth finally disappears from the map at the end of the days, what looks for       the eastern people like a        solid meteorite hit. Magic stuff starts to disappear from the east, races       diferrent to humans start to decay, space exploration starts.        Oh, and dwarves are a main motor of technological advance, and take part in       colonizing these two other planets that are in the system. But they eventually       die out and give some space to Man :D       So that's the connection, please just don't laugh haha       Mikkel, 0something0, Greg, I will respond to your comments, but it is 00:29 in       my country so I really gotta get some sleep before school ;) I go to sleep       that late for some time now, and I think my constant headache isfrom that xD              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
