From: adam.w.krajewski@gmail.com              Okay, let's change a few things, I messed it up a bit. The engagements start       at a few thousand kilometers, but there the fight goes with lasers, missiles       and PBWs, and at a few hundred kilos (let's say 300km) the coilguns are used.       I didn't hear about        this Russian experiment, although I knew that they were working on       electromagnetic guns. 2 grams at 5 km/s would probably be at firearm range of       energy, am I right?        My ships (they are for my setting) are around 700 m long, shape is most       closely represented by cuboid (hope dictionary is correct :p), they can       withstand high acceleration in line with main engines thrust direction and up       to 2,5 Gs left/right/up/down (I        know there was a better term for that, but I don't remember it), although       normally their manevuering thrusters go at 1G max, to not stress the       structure. As for armor, whole ship is covered in anti - laser something, and       important areas are in armored        belts of whipple shields, and here I don't know much about how to calculate       optimum thickness and mass of them, were there any studies?        Also, how fast blue laser dissiapate in vacuum?        And finally, have you got Quora account? Just today I have seen someone with       your name answering sfnal weapon question :D              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
