From: lwcamp@gmail.com              We have discovered a number of "super-earth" planets already, with masses       between that of Earth and Neptune/Uranus. The details are not yet known, but       they might have very thick (possibly helium rich) atmospheres.              Carbon planets have been speculated by people who actually know about solar       system formation, which are rich in carbon and deficient in oxygen. They       would have mantles of silicon carbide or titanium carbide, with crusts made of       diamond and graphite,        oceans of hydrocarbons, and atmospheres of carbon monoxide and light       hydrocarbons (methane, ethane).              Ice planets are possible, where the world is covered by oceans so deep that       the pressure crystallizes the deep water into exotic forms of ice. This would       cut off the oceans from the geological activity in the crust and mantle,       probably leading to        nutrient deficient and lifeless oceans.              Luke              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
