"So all of this is left away from the expected battle zone, and it's armed
simply for self-defense so the actual battleship has something to come back
   to, right?"
Ok, so, to start with, the cylindrical and octagonal parts are together with
the brick, nothing is left behind, I should make that clear at the beginning.
So, warship is: engine, reactor, weapon ring, crew and cargo, coilguns,
   frontal antennae array with
spinal mount. They are all parts of one vehicle. The tugship is a completely
   diferrent story.
As for particle beams, I honestly don't know why I put them here, maybe the
justification for them could be the ability to give some fast punch at long
end of engagements distances, at which normally the missiles are used? Their
   "ammo" is quite light,
and their time to target is short... What do you think?
As for armor for ferry phase, the ship as a whole is attached behind the tug
with its own shield, so the need for warship to carry it fades away. Although,
I think I will put something like this on front.
For the crew: In interstellar trip they are in hibernation, when they arrive
to target they wake up and stay awake for time of mission, if the ship carries
payload of troops, the crew is awake as normally, but the troops are sleeping
   until there is a
need to drop them into battle. The size of the ship makes me think, what would
be the size of crew, it's bigger than Nimitz class aircraft carriers, that
have a few thousand people on board IIRC.
For the steer and portside - I forgot that it should be "board" not "side",
and that in English it's "star" board, not "steer" like in my country.
Fighter launcher you say... Hm, for now the ships hangar bays have quite a lot
of places that can deploy the smaller crafts, but, that could be an option...
Especially when the spinal mount connects to the hangar, where the
   compulsators, recoil systems
for coilgun would be mounted. Also, fighters in space?:p
The barrels are quite "fat" already, like 1 meter, for a 10 kg projectile that
will be 50mm wide that's quite a lot I think (I used that value today when
calculating lenght, magnetic field strenght etc using Mr Campbell's equations
   found on Atomic
Rockets, I made some mistakes though and results are weird).
On power storage, technomagic supercapacitors you say... Made from silica
based shells of intelligent insectoids who are the only lifeform that has a
special silicen nano structure in it? Sounds nice :D The compulsators sound
   good too, but they would
need some armor, violently rupturing wheel at thousands of rpm could do big
   damage I think.
Fast googling did not get me power density, but gonna search for that later.
And again about something rotating, today I started thinking about a big
technological challenge, mounting 26 m wide turrets in a way that will keep
them from falling out of turret rings. The naval battleships had the turrets
   just lying on rollers, if
the ship would turn sideways they would fall off... And we need them to not
fall off at a few Gs...
Anyway, big thank you for your effort here, without you and others help making
all these projects wouldn't be possible!
