   If you have an exhaust velocity of 3000 m/s, like a solid state booster, you   
   can get the deltaV of 8125 m/s required for LEO, if you can build your rocket   
   with a mass ratio of 15.   
      
   So if that missile weighs 10 kg for takeoff, you must build fairing, nozzle,   
   oxidiser tank, stearing jets, valves et.al. weighing less than 0,66 kg.   
   You can maintain the stability of such a flimsy thing with internal   
   overpressure.   
   The nozzle in solid state usually burns away, but here you will need active   
   cooling, and everything has to be so small that you will need a jeweler to   
   build it.   
      
   But in Elysium, they had hand held force fields, so they could push combustion   
   chamber pressures and temperatures way beyond any materials, and thus get   
   really any exhaust velocity they feel like hand-waving up.
