   Well, if history is any guide, nearly *all* major scientific discoveries   
   effect unintended consequences.  And the only reason a drive based on   
   time crystals would be bad SF is if they used them for the wrong thing   
   (e.g., time travel) instead of something more reasonable (e.g., as a way   
   to harness vacuum energy to do work).
