From: adam.w.krajewski@gmail.com              Hi, as I slowly progress through designing factions in my universe, I gave       many of them magnetic weapons launching slugs, coilguns and railguns. I did       not put the lasers into the setting, because I don't want the space battles to       be fought on too long        distances, as that would not be as interesting IMO. I will eventually put the       lasers somewhere, but with a set of limitations, that will make them not a       "top pick" weapon for warships.        I want to put some more interesting ranged weapons into the setting, and I       remember the weapon called "stiletto beam" from "Earthlight". In the book it       worked by magnetically launching a stream of molten metal. As far as I know,       it's not possible,        because metals loose their magnetic properties when molten :v But, then I       thought, what if there is somekind of substance that still could have magnetic       properties when molten? I know that it's unnecesary complication to have your       projectile liquid and        red hot, but for the sake of cool look, is that possible?              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
