   Well, nukes as faster, more convenient, and more precise.  You only gain much   
   by throwing rocks if you throw big ones, and that means you need time to bring   
   them into position to collide with the target.  If you've got the kind of   
   delta-V that would let    
   you move Dinosaur Killers or bigger fast, you could probably use that energy   
   more efficiently in other ways to destroy.   
      
   Small rocks could be brought in fairly fast, but they're no more destructive   
   than nukes, and more trouble.   
      
   In fact, about the only real advantage of throwing rocks that I can see is   
   that you avoid radioactive contamination, and if you've got relatively clean   
   nukes even that is not an issue.   
      
   It's certainly true that an impacting asteroid can tear up a planet, but I'm   
   not sure it offers much advantage over a hold full of nukes.
