From: jeanettescrooby@gmail.com              Hi Klaus and everyone els.              I had forgotten about the expansion.              Normally high-altitude balloons shed gas and ballast to keep the envelopes       from bursting and the balloon from sinking. But in the Rockoon scenario the       balloon is only going one way.              The altitude achieved by StratEx is astounding. That is practically half-way       to space. Above 99% means you only have to fight gravity, and you can       concentrate on accelerating horizontally instead of vertically.              The 60-million cubic feet is something like 2 million cubic meters(1 m = 3.x       feet 3 x 3 x 3 = 27, round up to 30). Plenty (in theory at least) to lift a 28       ton cargo).              Still considering the vulnerability of balloons to weather, and considering       how fast a well made launch vehicle can leave its point of origin it is       probably better (easier, less clumsy) just to work out how the characters got       their hands on G2O vehicles.                     Thank you to those who helped me out here.              Regards       Frank Scrooby              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
