From: daellis94@gmail.com              Most of the calculation side can be done with equations that can be found on       Atomic Rockets. No doubt we can also discuss calculations here, but it may       well be faster for you to look into the article on each of the areas you are       interested in to compile        your arsenal of formulae.               That said, I've been doing quite a lot of worldbuilding, myself, and there are       a few relatively minor points on which I would tend to distance myself from       Atomic Rockets. The biggest, in my mind, is the way damage is always measured       purely in the energy        theoretically delivered to the target. This is really mostly applicable       regarding kinetic weapons, in my mind.               Just because kinetics will begin carrying more energy per kilogram than a       given high-explosive compound or mixture does NOT mean high-explosive fillers       are suddenly useless. Not all joules are created equal--or, more accurately,       not all joules will be        delivered to the target equally.               Just because a solid piece of tungsten or depleted uranium moving at a certain       velocity relative to its target carries much more energy than is needed to       perforate its hull does not automatically guarantee that it will not simply be       overmatched for its        target and pass straight through, failing to deliver much of its energy on       impact.               That notion isn't really related to the spreadsheet. I just feel like that's       something to consider for general world building.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
