   Realistically that may be part of it but "in movie" the reason was   
   because Luthor was using his "superior intellect" to direct Ultraman to   
   fight better than Superman.  (Calling out the attacks with pre-set   
   numbers, remember?)   
      
   Yes, I agree its stupid but this is the same guy who made Superman's   
   parents evil and the other parents idiots.
