60de1cb6       From: super70s@super70s.invalid              Picked this one up for a couple of bucks at Goodwill. Johnny Simmons       plays a sought after young baseball pitcher bound for the majors, Ethan       Hawke is his sadist-psycho dad, Paul Giamatti is his genial "sports       therapist," and Sophie Kennedy Clark is his hottie girlfriend. I don't       know if Simmons had any kind of career of note before or after this one       (he's nowhere else in my database anyway) but he turns in a good       performance, as do the dependable Giamatti and Hawke. The therapy scenes       between the troubled Simmons and Giamatti seem to rise above the normal       Hollywood fare for such scenes; at one point Giamatti even reads him a       passage by literary wunderkind F. Scott Fitzgerald. I thought the ending       of this tidy 85 min. film was kind of abrupt but whatever. Hawke and       Giamatti don't share any scenes and in the featurette we learn Giamatti       has never even met Hawke (at least at the time of this movie).              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
