I'd have to make a controversial pick, Takeshi Kitano in...              The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi              For me, it did for Samurai films what Unforgiven did for Westerns. Kitano's       master swordsman wasn't so good because he engaged in 10 minute       duels, he was good because he stabbed/slashed his enemies before they       had a chance to stab/slash him.              Seriously. Dude. If he's the best there is, the best ever, and you are maybe       average at best, it's not supposed to be a battle. He's supposed to just kill       you & move on...              And I know, I know; that's not exactly how Unforgiven worked. And the       two films have TOTALLY different vibes. But Clint Eastwood's Bill Munny       wasn't the most dangerous gun slinger because he ran around looking       for fair fights. He was good because he was unflinching. He perceived an       enemy (threat) and reacted. No "Meet me at high noon," no "20 paces then       turn and fire." So that's why I liked Kitano's Zatoichi, his sword fights; he       didn't draw his sword to bow at opponents and duel for half an afternoon.       He drew his sword to dispose of enemies/threats, and then he put it back.              "The better you are, the shorter the contest."                                                        -- --              https://jtem.tumblr.com/post/644245897158492160              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
