|    The Russians Are Coming (GDR) 1987    |

From: wlah...@gmail.com              Hey,              Although the dateline reads “1987,” the film was actually being produced       in 1968 when the powers-that-be in East German cinema crushed the film saying       – among other things – it is “contaminated with modernism.” The film       was believed lost        until the director's wife and editor found a work copy and began piecing the       movie together, according to the East German Cinema Blog.              In the closing days of World War II, the defense of the Fatherland sometimes       fell on the shoulders of children. These children were known as Hitler Youth       – as is the hero of the tail – and that incensed the censors who       complained that the “hero        should be an antifascist.” The Hitler Youth find a Russian boy who they       capture and a Nazi soldier shoots and kills the child.              If only that child would stay dead. Instead, he shows up in dreams and other       places that has lead some critics to compare the director to Federico Fellini.       It is the strangest East German film that I've yet seen. Brilliant and       unsettling. It's on kanopy.              Directed by Heiner Carow from a script by Carow, Herman Herlinghaus, and Claus       Küchenmeister. Cinematography by Jürgen Brauer. Starring Gert Krause-Melzer,       Viktor Perevalov, and Dorothea Meißner, among others.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
