New Labyrinth Movie Reportedly in the Works From Robert Eggers
       --------------------------------------------------------------
Following the success of Nosferatu, which is out in theaters
now, a new report from The InSneider's Jeff Sneider notes that
director Robert Eggers has signed on to direct a sequel to the
       1986 film Labyrinth.

What do we know about the new Labyrinth movie?
According to Sneider's report, Eggers recently closed a deal
to co-write and direct the film. He'll be working on the
script with one of his longtime collaborators, with Sneider
suggesting that either his brother, Max Eggers, or Icelandic
poet, novelist, lyricist, and screenwriter Sigurjon Birgir
Sigurosson, better known as Sjon, are likely collaborators.
Sjon collaborated with Eggers previously as a co-writer on
       2022's The Northman.

Sneider believes the co-writer to be Sjon, with his report
suggesting that Chris Columbus will produce the film alongside
his daughter, Eleanor Columbus, and Lisa Henson of The Jim
Henson Company. Brian Henson will executive produce.

Sneider notes that he's heard the project will not be a
remake, but it's unclear whether or not the movie will be a
direct sequel or perhaps something else entirely. Originally,
a sequel film had been in development with Doctor Strange and
Sinister's Scott Derrickson attached to direct, but that
project fell through due to creative differences.

Originally released in 1986, Labyrinth is a musical fantasy
film directed by Jim Henson and written by Terry Jones. The
film is famous for featuring a mixed cast, with many of its
characters being played by puppets produced by Henson's
Creature Shop. The film starred Jennifer Connelly and David
Bowie and followed the tale of Connelly's Sarah as she went on
an adventure to reach the center of a gigantic maze to rescue
her baby brother from Bowie's Jareth, the Goblin King.

Although the film underperformed at the box office, it became
a massive cult classic after release. Since its premiere,
Labyrinth has gone on to be adapted into comics, board games,
       books, and video games.
