       Robert Redford Passes Away, Movie Legend Was 89

       Robert Redford, one of the most influential actors in Hollywood   
       of the last 50 years, has passed away at the age of 89.   
      
       Cindi Berger, chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers &   
       Cowan PMK, announced the news of Redford's passing.   
      
       "Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home   
       at Sundance in the mountains of Utah - the place he loved,   
       surrounded by those he loved," Berger said in a statement via   
       Variety. "He will be missed greatly. The family requests   
       privacy."   
      
       Redford died in his sleep. No specific cause of death has been   
       revealed.   
      
       Which Robert Redford movies are best known?   
       After finding success in television and theater, Redford made   
       his screen debut in 1960's Tall Story. Redford starred in 1967's   
       Barefoot in the Park, the film adaptation of the popular Neil   
       Simon play.   
      
       In 1969, Redford transitioned into stardom in Butch Cassidy and   
       the Sundance Kid. Paul Newman starred as Butch Cassidy, while   
       Redford played the Sundance Kid.   
      
       Redford became one of Hollywood's top leading men in the 1970s,   
       with featured roles in 1973's The Sting, 1974's The Great Gatsby,   
       1975's Three Days of the Condor, and 1976's All the President's   
       Men.   
      
       In 1980, Redford made his directorial debut with Ordinary People.   
       The family drama won four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best   
       Director. Redford acted less frequently after Ordinary People,   
       but he still made memorable turns in 1984's The Natural, 1985's   
       Out of Africa, 1993's Indecent Proposal, and 2001's Spy Game.   
      
       Redford announced his retirement from acting after 2018's The Old   
       Man & the Gun.   
      
       In 2014, Redford made his MCU debut in Captain America: The Winter   
       Soldier. Redford played S.H.I.E.L.D. official Secretary Alexander   
       Pierce, who was later revealed to be working for Hydra. Redford   
       reprised the role for 2019's Avengers: Endgame.   
      
       Outside of acting, Redford became a champion of independent film   
       and founded the Sundance Film Institute.
