The alternative term       of "speculative fiction" is an aftermarket upgrade in order to ensure that       other types of genre        fiction that are usually grouped with science fiction, such as fantasy or       horror (or urban fantasy or magical realism or paranormal or...) were not       excluded.              Speculative fiction is not *better* than science fiction, it's merely       *broader* than science fiction.              I will say that I've never heard anyone, ever, say-out the whole thing as       "rec.arts.speculative-fiction.composition". It's not impossible that the       original charter was "spec-fic" but it's unlikely.              Now someone can explain that I'm full of it.              What did *you* think the newsgroup was, Starmaker?              -Julie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
