   	The latter I can understand. The former shows a very large lack of   
   understanding of what editors DO. Yes, there are sucky editors (just as   
   there are lots of sucky writers) but the right editor will make your   
   story better -- and still YOUR story -- mostly by pointing out areas   
   where you may have failed to do the best you could have.   
      
   	There may be, somewhere, an author who cannot benefit from editors. I   
   have yet to meet one or encounter a book written by one.

   	Money up to a certain point is an advantage. Past that it's only an   
   advantage for those up for the pain in the ass in exchange for something
